Flood Victims Encouraged to Apply for State, Federal Assistance

HARRISBURG – Residents and business owners impacted by the July 5-6 flash flooding may be eligible to take advantage of newly available state and federal disaster assistance, according to Rep. Scott Barger (R-Blair/Huntingdon).

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved the state’s request for disaster loans for individuals, businesses and nonprofit organizations affected by flooding in Blair, Bedford, Cambria, Centre, Clearfield and Huntingdon counties.

In addition, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency has activated the Commonwealth Disaster Recovery Assistance Program (DRAP) for eligible homeowners and renters in the City of Altoona, Antis Township, Logan Township, Snyder Township, Tyrone Borough and Warriors Mark Township.

“Our communities have shown incredible resilience in the wake of these devastating floods,” Barger said. “I encourage everyone who suffered damage to explore these assistance programs and apply if they are eligible. These resources may help with the recovery process.”

The SBA has also opened a Disaster Loan Outreach Center at the Tyrone Borough offices, 1100 Logan Ave., to provide in-person application assistance through Aug. 13. Copies of paper applications can be requested through Barger’s office by calling 814-695-2398.

Applications for SBA physical damage loans are due Sept. 21. DRAP applications (intended for filers with lower income levels) will be accepted through Oct. 21.

Residents with unmet recovery needs may also contact PA 211 by dialing 2-1-1 for additional local assistance and support.
